Fighting poverty in Africa one entrepreneur at a time

African Business Institute (ABI) is a full-package business education, incubation, and investment program based in Uganda and Malawi.

ABI offers an accredited one-year program that confers a post-graduate diploma in business administration. Our unique curriculum is customized for Uganda and Malawi to provide students with the best combination of MBA-level lectures and practical projects (workshops, internships, pilot projects) designed for immediate, local application of the business concepts taught. The program concludes with multiple opportunities to pitch before local and international investors for seed funding

Our vision is to raise a generation of competent, ethical business leaders in Africa, and to launch local businesses that improve lives and transform communities by opening avenues for independence. In Africa, an even moderately successful business can feed hundreds of families through direct employment, and positively impact thousands of people in various indirect ways. At ABI, we believe that true social empowerment and sustainability cannot be achieved without strong, local businesses run by skillful, ethical local leaders, leaders who believe that, as the Bible says, it is better to give than to receive.

1.  Practical relevance

50% of ABI's program consists of lectures delivered by local business lecturers, as well as MBA professors from world-class business schools such as Emory University and business professionals with a proven track record in business.

The other 50% is a highly practical and locally relevant array of team activities designed to identify or generate innovative business ideas, build business plans around them, and then test and re-test them in the real market until they are investment-ready. All activities will be coached and mentored by business practitioners with proven project and market experience.

2.  Cultivation of integrity, morals, and values

ABI believes that the fight against poverty in Africa calls not only for more small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) but also the ethical business leaders to run them - leaders who will be known for their unshakeable integrity and selfless values.

As a member of African Bible Colleges Inc., ABI operates on its campuses and accepts a large number of its graduates. By doing so, ABI provides each cohort with an environment that nurtures spiritual growth, cultivates a culture of servant-leadership, and instils in students a hardwired enthusiasm to serve God and people.

African Bible Colleges Inc. has trained Christian leaders in Africa for over 45 years and has campuses in Uganda, Malawi, and Liberia.

3.  Team-Based

From very early on in the program, ABI's students are made to study and operate in teams (called "companies") each with its own CEO and other officers. This provides a simulated company environment to students as they take on team internships, team workshops, and especially the creation and development of their own business ideas and business plans later on in the program.

Investors in student business ideas will be glad to know that teams would have been working together for more than half a year, through various rigorous assignments, by the time that they are pitching their business plans at the end of the program.

For I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
